Dear Organisers

I am a medical practitioner with full unconditional registration with the Australian Medical Board.

Are you aware that one of your speakers (Meryl Dorey) for your festival is President of the Australian Vaccination Network, an organisation which in 2009 had a public warning issued against it by the Health Care Complaints Commission? Whilst Ms Dorey (who has no formal medical credentials) states that she gives a balanced view of vaccination, by examining the material that the AVN distributes, it is clear that she is strongly against vaccination. She is also an AIDS denialist and a conspiracy theorist with regard to medical orthodoxy.

Your festival is well regarded among the music lovers of this nation and by giving a forum to Ms Dorey, I am concerned that some of your festival goers may not be able to differentiate her medical mythology from appropriate public health measures such as vaccination.

I urge you to reconsider your invitation or to inform the festival goers who attend her presentation of the warnings that have been issued by a Commonwealth Commission. I would hope at the very least that she is required to declare her lack of medical or scientific knowledge and present her "information" not as fact but only as anecdote.
